Art, Design and Food Technology
Art, craft and design aims to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
ART: KEY STAGE 3
The KS3 Art and Design curriculum is designed to offer access to a range of art and design styles such as: modern, abstract, landscape, impressionist and art from different cultures, which students explore within topics including colour theory, mark making, architecture and portraits. These topics provide opportunities for students to be creative and experiment with a range of materials and skills including drawing, painting, sculpture and printing.
To enable students to leave the classroom with more confidence and independence than when they arrived, lessons will build on drawing, painting and making skills with techniques increasing in difficulty each year, revisiting knowledge and understanding collected throughout KS3.
Through engagement with these tasks, students will develop communication skills, social skills, confidence and adaptability skills; and, above all, independence which will help them in their future education pathways and careers.

ART: KEY STAGE 4
The KS4 Art and Design curriculum is designed to continue to offer access to a range of art, craft and design styles such as: abstract, pattern-based artwork, sculpture and 3D work and the art from different cultures, which students explore within topics including Human Forms, Portraits, Mark making, Natural Forms. These topics provide opportunities for students to experiment and take creative risks with a wider range of materials and skills including drawing, painting, sculpture and printing building and developing their knowledge and understanding from KS3.
To enable students to leave the classroom with increased confidence and independence than when they arrived, lessons will continue to build on drawing, painting and making skills with techniques increasing in difficulty and revisiting knowledge and understanding collected throughout KS3 enabling students to have the time to show progress through the developing quality of their work.
Through engagement with these tasks, students will further develop communication skills, social skills, confidence and adaptability skills; and, above all, independence which will help them in their future education pathways and careers.

TEXTILE: KEY STAGE 3
The KS3 Textiles curriculum is designed to offer access to a range of textiles skills and projects such as: Monster Cushions, Fabulous Fish and Bugs and Butterflies, as well as inspirational ideas from different cultures, designers and craft workers. These topics provide opportunities for students to be creative and experiment with a range of materials and skills, including drawing, painting, designing, stitching, embroidery, tie dye, batik and printing.
To enable students to leave the classroom with more confidence and independence than when they arrived, lessons will build on drawing, painting, designing and making skills with techniques increasing in difficulty each year. Students also revisit knowledge and understanding collected throughout KS3. Through engagement with these tasks, students will develop communication skills, social skills, confidence and adaptability skills; and, above all, independence – which will help them in their future education pathways and careers.
FOOD TECHNOLOGY: KEY STAGE 3
The KS3 Food curriculum is designed to offer access to a range of practical cooking skills and projects such as: Health and Safety and Healthy Eating; Food Provenance and Nutrition; The Catering Industry and Environmental Considerations, as well as inspirational ideas from different cultures, food settings and Chefs . These topics provide opportunities for students to be creative and experiment with a range of ingredients and skills.
To enable students to leave the classroom with more confidence and independence than when they arrived, lessons will build on food preparation, use of equipment, menu design and making skills with techniques and practical lessons increasing in difficulty each year. Students also revisit knowledge and understanding collected throughout KS3.
Through engagement with these tasks, students will develop communication skills, social skills, confidence and adaptability skills and, above all, independence which will help them in their future education pathways and careers.
PRODUCT DESIGN: KEY STAGE 3
The KS3 3D Product Design curriculum is designed to offer access to a range of making skills and projects such as: Brahma puzzles, Puppets and Angle-poise lamps based on the Memphis style, as well as inspirational ideas from different cultures, designers and craft workers. These topics provide opportunities for students to be creative and experiment with a range of materials and skills, including drawing, painting, designing, woodwork, using the laser cutter, lighting circuits etc.
To enable students to leave the classroom with more confidence and independence than when they arrived, lessons will build on drawing, painting, designing and making skills with techniques increasing in difficulty each year. Students also revisit knowledge and understanding collected throughout KS3.
Through engagement with these tasks, students will develop communication skills, social skills, confidence and adaptability skills; and, above all, independence – which will help them in their future education pathways and careers.

Students design and make items for the home, including garments to wear; as well as taking inspiration from the art and pattern design from different cultures that students explore within topics including Seashores, Journeys, Mark Making and Natural Forms. These topics provide opportunities for students to experiment and take creative risks with a wider range of materials. Students also develop their skills in drawing, painting, dying, manipulation of fabric, batik, felt making, weaving, pattern cutting, printing, fashion drawing and designing, thus building and developing their knowledge and understanding from KS3.
To enable students to leave the classroom with increased confidence and independence, lessons will continue to build on drawing, painting and making skills, with techniques increasing in difficulty. Students will also revisit knowledge and understanding collected throughout KS3, enabling students to have the time to show progress through the developing quality of their work.

FOOD TECHNOLOGY: Key Stage 4 Hospitality and Catering
The KS4 Curriculum is designed to offer access to a range of preparing and making styles; in depth theory connected to the hospitality and catering industry and complex practical lessons, including cooking more than one dish at a time, as well as taking inspiration from the dishes and styles from different cultures, countries, specialist diets, festivals and celebrations. These topics provide opportunities for students to experiment and take creative risks with a wider range of ingredients and skills, building and developing their knowledge and understanding from KS3.
To enable students to leave the classroom with increased confidence and independence than when they arrived, lessons will continue to build on planning and designing menus and ‘making skills’ with techniques increasing in difficulty. Through engagement with these tasks, students will further develop communication skills, social skills, confidence and adaptability skills and above all independence which will help them in their future education pathways and careers

3D DESIGN: Key Stage 4
The KS4 3D design will follow the Art and Design curriculum and is designed to continue to offer access to a range of art, craft and design styles alongside product design technique and processes such as; modelling, construction, prototypes, sculpture and 3d work. Students will look at different artists and designers from different cultures, which students explore within topics including Architecture, puppets, form making, Natural Forms. These topics provide opportunities for students to experiment and take creative risks with a wider range of materials and skills including drawing, designing, sculpture, model making, CAD and electronics building and developing their knowledge and understanding from KS3.
