Year 7 footballers visited the historic Cliff training ground which was home to Manchester United up until 1999, when it was replaced by the Trafford Training Centre in Carrington. The team took part in an emerging talent tournament against Greater Manchester schools. Against some incredible opposition they fought and stayed united, positive and resilient, coming away with three draws and a win.

On the experience, Ollie said: “It was fun. It was good to see the history of the club, and the players on the wall. It was great to get an opportunity like that so soon at Copley Academy.” Captain Ewan added: It was really tough, we made a few mistakes but we kept our head up. Our keeper was sad when we lost the first game. I helped him and said it’s fine and he did better later and we won. We stuck together.”

Players have the opportunity to play after school on Mondays, and a Breakfast club on either Monday or Tuesday mornings. With more tournaments and regular games against other schools to come during the year.
