Consultation – Additional Resourced Provision at Copley Academy
Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
We are pleased to share that Copley Academy has been approached by Tameside Local Authority to explore the possibility of expanding our support for students with additional needs, particularly those with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
What’s Being Proposed?
We are working with the Local Authority to develop an Additional Resourced Provision (ARP) at Copley Academy. This would be a specialist resource base for up to 12 students in Key Stage 3 – four students in each of Years 7, 8 and 9.
This provision would build on the excellent support already offered through The Bridge and Aspire in our academy. It would also involve creating new, purpose-built areas within the academy designed to offer personalised learning and support.
Who Is It For?
Some of the students in this new provision may already be on roll at Copley and receiving additional support. Others would be placed by the Local Authority through the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process. This means:
The new ARP will not affect the usual admissions process for students joining Copley Academy in Year 7 or through in-year transfers.
Places in the ARP will be specifically allocated by the Local Authority for students with identified needs through their EHCP.
What Are the Benefits?
This development would help us:
- Offer even more tailored support to students with additional needs
- Continue to promote an inclusive school environment
- Create new opportunities for all students to learn, grow and thrive
- Enhance our specialist team and continue improving provision across the school
- Provide more opportunities for students to be included in wider school life, where appropriate
We’d Love to Hear Your Views
As we begin to shape this provision, we want to make sure we consider the views and ideas of parents and carers in our school community.
Please take a few minutes to complete a short survey and share your thoughts. The survey can be found by following this link, https://forms.office.com/e/gZW8nmUNAD
Your feedback is extremely important to us as we continue to improve and ensure Copley Academy is a place where every child is supported to achieve their best.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
Yours faithfully,
Ruth Craven
Principal
